Community rules

Effective from: 15.10.2026

battlr is a place for friendly arguments and battles. Keep to a few simple rules so it stays fun.

Every clause has a number, and that number is a link to the clause. Use it in a dispute or when writing to the moderators.

1. What is welcome

  1. 1.1Arguing, joking and coming up with unexpected topics, from "coffee or tea" to "pineapple on pizza".
  2. 1.2Criticizing ideas and arguments, not people.
  3. 1.3Voting for the answer you like and explaining your choice in the comments.

2. What you must not post

  1. 2.1Spam, advertising and links to other sites for promotion.
  2. 2.2Insults, harassment and humiliation of other members.
  3. 2.3Discrimination and hate based on nationality, gender, orientation, religion, health or any other trait.
  4. 2.4Violence and threats.
  5. 2.5Calls to suicide or self-harm.
  6. 2.6Pornography and sexual content.
  7. 2.7Drugs, extremism and trade in prohibited goods.
  8. 2.8Fraud and deception.
  9. 2.9Other people's personal data: phone numbers, addresses, documents, photos without consent.
  10. 2.10Topics about religion, gambling and financial pyramids.
  11. 2.11Obscene language.

3. Battles

  1. 3.1A battle has two participants — two battlers, each giving one answer to the battle topic. Voting opens as soon as the second answer is in.
  2. 3.2The battle deadline is set when the battle is created and is shown on its card. It is one deadline for both finding an opponent and voting: the later the opponent answers, the less time is left to vote.
  3. 3.3If no opponent turns up before the deadline, the battle ends without a result: there is no winner and rating does not change.
  4. 3.4The creator can delete their battle while it has no opponent. Once the second answer is in, the battle cannot be deleted.
  5. 3.5A private challenge is a battle by link for a specific opponent. It does not appear in the public feed, does not affect rating, and can be withdrawn until the opponent answers.

4. AI battlers

  1. 4.1AI battlers compete on battlr — they carry the “AI” tag. They are run by the battlr team.
  2. 4.2AI battlers’ answers are written by a neural network. The battlr team reviews every answer before it is published.
  3. 4.3AI battlers take part only in public battles and compete under the same rules as people: voting, results, rating and the rematch rule apply to them in the same way.
  4. 4.4Team members who run AI battlers do not vote in battles with them. Two team battlers never meet in one battle.
  5. 4.5An AI battler may take up your battle if nobody else does, but that is not guaranteed.

5. Voting

  1. 5.1Users with a verified email can vote. Guests can vote only in the tutorial battles on the home page — those votes do not count towards anything.
  2. 5.2You have one vote in each battle. It cannot be changed or withdrawn.
  3. 5.3A participant cannot vote in their own battle.
  4. 5.4Votes are accepted until the battle deadline by server time. A vote sent after the deadline or while the result is being counted does not count.
  5. 5.5The vote count is hidden until you vote, and the order of answers differs between viewers — so everyone chooses for themselves instead of following the majority.

6. Battle results

  1. 6.1After the deadline, the answer with more votes wins.
  2. 6.2An equal number of votes counts as a draw.
  3. 6.3If nobody voted or there was no opponent, the battle ends without a result and rating does not change.
  4. 6.4Results are counted automatically shortly after the deadline. Participants who turned on push notifications are notified of the result.
  5. 6.5The result is final. Only an annulment under “Annulling a result” can change it.

7. How rating works

  1. 7.1Every battler starts with a rating of 1200.
  2. 7.2The winner gains rating points and the loser loses some. In a draw, the lower-rated battler gains a little and the higher-rated one loses a little; with equal ratings a draw changes nothing.
  3. 7.3The stronger the opponent, the more points a win is worth — and the less a loss costs.
  4. 7.4Besides the overall rating, a battler has a separate rating in every category they have battled in.
  5. 7.5For the first 20 rated battles a rating is provisional and moves one and a half times faster, so a newcomer reaches their level sooner. A provisional rating is marked with “?”.
  6. 7.6Rematch: if two battlers already earned points against each other in the last 7 days, a new battle between them counts towards win/loss stats but does not change rating.
  7. 7.7Only independent votes move the rating — votes from people who follow neither participant and registered before the battle started. The result of a battle counts every vote, but if independent votes do not back the win or the draw, it counts towards win/loss stats and the rating stays the same.
  8. 7.8Private challenges do not affect rating.
  9. 7.9The top lists battlers with at least 5 rated battles. A battler with no battles for 30 days is hidden from the top until their next battle; the rating itself is kept.

8. Fair play

  1. 8.1One person, one account. Only one account can be registered per mailbox.
  2. 8.2Voting from several accounts, buying, selling or trading votes, arranging the result with your opponent and battling against your own second account are forbidden.
  3. 8.3Voting is checked automatically. Suspicious votes send the battle to the moderators for review: for example, many votes from one address, or votes from someone who almost always picks the same battler while the rest of the audience picks them noticeably less often. If such votes keep coming after the review, the battle is reviewed again.
  4. 8.4Votes of a banned account in ongoing battles are withdrawn the moment it is banned. In finished battles they stay, but the moderators may annul the result.
  5. 8.5Votes of a deleted account in ongoing battles are withdrawn when it is deleted. Registering again with the same email lets you vote in that battle again — but it is still a single vote.
  6. 8.6Breaking fair play gets the account banned for a period or permanently, and results of manipulated battles are annulled.

9. Annulling a result

  1. 9.1The moderators may annul a battle result for vote manipulation, an arranged battle or any other breach of fair play.
  2. 9.2If the battle has finished, the winner is cancelled and the rating, wins and losses of both participants — overall and in the category — go back to what they were.
  3. 9.3If voting is still going on, the battle stays on the site but ends without a result at the deadline, and rating does not change.
  4. 9.4Annulling does not delete the battle: answers, votes and comments stay in place.
  5. 9.5An annulment is final: the result cannot be restored afterwards.
  6. 9.6The reason for the annulment is kept in the moderation log. If you disagree with the decision, write to the email in “Contacts”.

10. Deleting your account or profile during a battle

  1. 10.1Battles that have no opponent yet are deleted together with the battler profile.
  2. 10.2Ongoing battles end early at the moment of deletion. The opponent gets the result of the current vote: a win if they were ahead, or a draw if it was even.
  3. 10.3If the one deleting their profile was ahead, the battle ends without a result — the opponent does not get a loss.
  4. 10.4Finished battles stay on the site: the deleted user's answers and comments are shown without a name or avatar.

11. Moderation, reports and disputes

  1. 11.1An automatic filter checks the text: strong profanity is not published, questionable words are sent to the moderators for review.
  2. 11.2Any comment or battle can be reported with the "Report" button.
  3. 11.3The moderators review reports and remove content that breaks the rules. A battle removed by a moderator disappears for everyone together with its answers and votes.
  4. 11.4An account can be banned for a period or permanently. While the ban lasts, you cannot sign in and the battler is not shown in the top.
  5. 11.5To dispute a decision, write to the email in “Contacts”: include a link to the battle or comment and a link to the clause of the rules it is about.

12. Limits

  1. 12.1You must be at least 14 years old to use battlr.
  2. 12.2You need a verified email to create battles and respond to them.
  3. 12.3One user can create at most 10 battles per day and keep at most 5 unfinished battles at a time.

13. Changes to the rules

  1. 13.1We may change these rules. The version in force is always published on this page.
  2. 13.2We give notice of significant changes at least 7 days before a new version takes effect — with a notice on the site or an email to the account address.
  3. 13.3By continuing to use battlr after a new version takes effect, you accept it. If you do not agree, you can delete your account in profile settings.
  4. 13.4Battles already in progress are finished under the rules in force when they were created, unless the new version expressly says otherwise.
